Archant

Have you ever wondered what life was like in the Stone Age? How people made tools out of stone and what sort of shelters they lived in? This Easter you can find out and see a ‘real’ caveman at work!

See stone tools being made, handle Stone Age artefacts, try your hand at cave painting and meet our very own caveman at the Saffron Walden Museum, on Wednesday, April 16 and Thursday, April 17.

Gemma Tully, visitor services and learning officer at the museum, said: “Inspired by some of the objects from out exhibition, Secrets from the Stores, which runs until July 20, this is a family activity open for all ages.

“It will be a great opportunity to learn more about life in the Stone Age, touch tools made thousands of years ago, to have your questions answered by experts (including a ‘real’ caveman and museum staff) and to get creative – caveperson style!”

The event has a special charge for children. Children over six years old £2; fives years and under are free. Normal entry fees apply for adults: £1.50, 75p concessions.

Sessions run from 11am–1pm and from 2-4pm. No need to book, just drop in. Slots with the caveman will last 30 minutes and will commence at 11am, 11.45am and 12.30pm, then at 2pm, 2.45pm and 3.30pm. There will be plenty of room in each slot but if you do have to wait a while, object handling and cave painting will be taking place on a rolling basis in the Museum’s Great Hall to make sure your little cave people stay entertained!
