THE Bridge End Residents' Association gives its wholehearted support to Mrs Kelman in her effort to improve conditions in the area. We have, for many years, been trying to bring some better order to traffic in Bridge Street.
For instance, heavy traffic approaching the town from Windmill Hill is subject to a weight and size restriction. No such control applies in the any other direction.
Although the reason behind this is known, what are lorry drivers supposed to think? Bridge Street has remained unchanged for almost 300 years and is an important part of our heritage.
Can you imagine what our American cousins would do with a street like this? What is needed is a complete lorry ban.
There is an official lorry route into the town. We should enforce it and use it to leave the town as well.
After all, the county council spent a lot of money on the new roundabout at the foot of Sparrow Hill to assist lorries.
