I WRITE with regard to the confounded nuisance that the local emergency services' excessive and unnecessary use of sirens is causing to residents of our formerly peaceful market town.
Has Saffron Walden turned into the Bronx all of a sudden? Why oh why do the residents of our country town have to be plagued with the air pollution caused by this American style noise?
What, indeed, was wrong with the occasional use of the good old traditional Z Cars or Emergency Ward 10 style of emergency vehicular warning systems?
Bring back the good old bobbies on bicycles with whistles and bells while we're at it!
Arthur Trotman, Saffron Walden
