FURTHER to Mr Morton's interesting letter (Postbag, July 6), how disheartening it must be for the Special Roadside Verges Trust who work so hard to preserve our wild flowers.

For many years I have enjoyed the early show of stitchwort on this same stretch of road (Ashdon Road). Last year, as soon as it was fully out, along came the man with his machine and hacked it all down right up to the hedge.

This surely wasn't a safety cut. Alas, the same thing has happened this year, leaving dry barren verges.
