I WAS amused to read that hoary old Saffron Walden urban myth about Quakers featured in the letter from A. Oldfield on March 22.

As a Quaker and a Bruce Springsteen fan (amongst many other kinds of music) I would like to reassure your readers that Quakers have no objection to people enjoying themselves.

We have many people who play and listen to music amongst our number as well as visual artists and film fans.

It's time to drop this myth and recognise that Saffron Walden is a modern town, with modern problems and modern advantages, and the Quakers are modern just like everyone else.
