I have been one of the band of unpaid volunteers at the Tourist Information Centre for the last six months and would like to pass on a few of my observations.
Firstly, as a business woman myself, I have a total regard and respect for the role played by the salaried staff - their integrity, loyalty and dedication in performing their tasks with both humour and humanity.
Ideally located, the centre is a major point of focus for the entire community.
Essentially a service industry, the centre not only supports but ensures vital revenue to the entire community including the very successful Saffron Screen, many local providers of tourist accommodation
but numerous societies
both in the town and surrounding areas. This major player, benefiting the town scene, should not be allowed to disappear.
