MANY years ago when my husband came home and said we have a posting to Saffron Walden. Where is Saffron Walden I asked? He smiled and said it's a country town not far from Cambridge.
We arrived and what a lovely surprise: friendly people and every shop you could wish for - groceries, gents' outfitters, ironmongers, book shops, wool shops and many others. What do we have today? Coffee shops, hairdressers, estate agents and charity shops.
Now it has been suggested they want to close the Market Square to vehicles! Where are the banks? In the Market Square! Does nobody think where disabled people park? Nobody asks to be disabled - they do like to be independent.
I am sorry to say Saffron Walden is becoming a ghost town. We are all being made to get in our cars or take a bus to find some decent shops. Come on town councillors - try and bring traders in and bring Saffron Walden back to life.
