ON August 26 I held a jumble sale at my home in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Two local papers kindly printed information on the event, I put ads in the local village shop, Post Office and surgery, and pushed 80 fliers through letterboxes in Newport. I hung bunches of GOSH balloons to show the way to the event.

I had three volunteers to help. We attracted about 12 people apart from immediate neighbours. In spite of this we managed to raise £103, but just think how much we could have raised for a truly worthy charity if a few more people had supported us.

I hope all the people who couldn't 'be bothered' never need the care and support of this great hospital.

Anyone who has been there will know how fortunate it is that we have this hospital ready and willing to help all children.

All unsold goods were taken to the Children's Hospices UK charity.
