Limit weight

You requested readers to write in support of Mrs Kelman in her attempt to obtain protection from heavy vehicles causing frequent damage to her historic property (Reporter, October 12).
Those familiar with the location of the cottage know how narrow it is, and the unsuitable size of the lorry shown in the photograph speaks for itself.
In addition, the extra stress on the surrounding infrastructure must be shortening its life.
There are weight limiting signs posted at Stumps Cross to prevent heavy vehicles entering the town from that direction.
Why are suitable signs not installed to prevent them leaving the town in the northerly direction also?
Surely this is preferable to using bollards which, although serviceable as a short term measure, are not conducive to enhancing and preserving the historic area of the town.
