THERE is a very good reason why no Saffron Walden Town councillors attended the meeting which took place between the Monument Group and the Saffron Walden Business Forum (Historic centre falls under developer, Reporter April 12).
It was a private meeting, and councillors were not invited! I did learn about it at the last minute, and the town clerk and I tried very hard to get details - without success. I do not gate-crash meetings to which I have not been invited! Like your correspondent, I share her concerns that much of the town's prime retail sites are falling under the control of one developer, but it's perfectly legal.
As a council, we are always open to fresh ideas; what powers do you suggest we invoke to stop this?
