I have lived close to the Bartlow Road crossing on the A1307 for 15 years and consequently am very much aware of the many accidents, fatal and otherwise, which have occurred during this period. Mechanical failure, sudden illness, or inattention (mobile phones) may have been the cause of a few, but undoubtedly excessive speed and dangerous overtaking have been the cause of the majority.
Most have occurred on or near to the dual carriageway section south of the crossing which encourages the impatient to overtake.
Restoring this part of the road to be single carriageway, introducing a 50mph speed limit between the Horseheath crossing and Linton, and the provision of a safety camera that was active would surely vastly improve the situation.
