Many years ago, someone had the good sense to raise the height of the kerbstones and extend the width of the pavement alongside the Old Sun Inn, currently Lankester Antiques and Books in Church Street.

This was done to protect the upper overhanging part of that old building from passing lorries.

Maybe Essex County Highways should make the same alterations to the pavement in Bridge Street in an effort to save those old houses from further damage by lorries entering the town via Windmill Hill.
