Two deer were hit by a car on Wednesday November 19 on the road between Hadstock and Little Walden.
I have no doubt they jumped out of the hedge into the road and the driver had no chance to stop, but everyone should know deer do that sort of thing; they have no road sense.
One had horrific head injuries and died before help arrived. The other one had shattered back legs, beyond repair, and lay in the road until police arrived, and then a vet and someone with a gun arrived to put it out of its misery some 30 minutes later. Four of us tried to keep it calm while we waited, but every time I close my eyes I am haunted by that deer as it tried to drag itself by its front legs away.
What do people do with the few minutes they save by driving fast?
