PERHAPS those who have the power will take note of the comments of the fire brigade regarding on road parking, Reporter, August 3.

This is not a problem unique to Saffron Walden but a national one, which nobody has sought to tackle.

While Borough Lane has been given as an example, there are many other roads, which are now virtually impassable due to parked cars.

One result of which is to funnel more traffic onto major routes and further increase congestion.

It may come hard but the definition of a road, as stated in the Road Traffic Acts, is a place for moving vehicles not parked ones.

All we get is speed humps and other deliberate obstructions by those who seek to deny the road to those for who it is legally designated or at least slow it down thus increasing pollution.

Instead of the current knee-jerk reaction of more restrictions, someone needs to sit down and work out an answer to this problem before everything grinds to total grid lock.
