I would like to congratulate Saffron Walden's mayor and all those who have so engagingly helped her on sustaining the sustainability campaign for a whole year - which is a very long time in politics!

Also, with local election day upon us, I would like to urge everybody to make an effort to vote, despite the seeming irrelevance of the moment, and despite the absence of Green Party candidates on this occasion.

They will instead be supporting efforts in more promising parts of the county.
