ON BEHALF of Saffron Walden and District Branch of UNA UK might I thank both the volunteer collectors and the generous people of Walden who contributed £387.38 to the street collection on United Nations Day.
The proceeds were shared equally between the UNA UK Trust, a registered educational charity, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) which relieves child exploitation and child poverty world wide.
Its current special appeal is to ameliorate malnutrition in Darfur.
UNICEF has announced a worldwide project with the YWCA to promote gender-equality; that a new report showed that in the former Communist block, despite great economic progress, still one in every four children live in poverty; or that in the tiny Caribbean state of Guinea-Bissau it had been able to ensure HIV/AIDS treatment for every child.
Wherever there are children in need, with our help, UNICEF is there.
