I WRITE regarding the letter from A Wilkins on the issue of large lorries driving through Bridge Street.

The weight limit imposed on vehicles entering the town from the north was to deal with articulated lorries turning left into George Street.

Prior to the installation of traffic lights and widening of the kerb there were frequent problems as larger lorries needed to use the full width of the High Street to make the left turn into George Street without demolishing the front of the hairdressers

There was not a problem with heavy lorries travelling north so a weight limit was not needed. There may well be a need for a width restriction affecting vehicles travelling in both directions.

As regards to the pavement widening in Church Street; that is a one way street whereas Bridge Street is two way.
