Why conserve asphalt?

STEVE McDermott has every right to put forward his own personal view that he does not want the Market Square to be resurfaced with block paving.

However, he is wrong to claim that the recent consultation by Saffron Walden Town Council had anything to do with the surface of the square. It was strictly about three possible options to make the town centre more pedestrian friendly.

From my point of view I think that block paving will be a considerable improvement and cannot for the life of me see why an asphalt surface should to be conserved for historical reasons.
