CROWDS of people flocked to the St Mary’s Church in Saffron Walden 17th century-themed Christman Fair on Saturday - and helped raise a record amount.

There were many stalls offering everything from home baked cakes, paintings and handicraft to tombola, books, toys and games. Children enjoyed making Christmas decorations and craft and many visitors climbed the steps to the bell tower and organ loft.

In the Parish Rooms, the Pudding Lane Pantry provided delicious refreshments accompanied by Christmas carols played on the piano.

A magnificent £5,309 was raised, which is a record amount and proceeds will go towards the church’s work.

“I am delighted that so many people came to our Christmas Fair,” said the rector, Revd David Tomlinson. “I would like to thank everyone for their support, especially those who helped to organise such a wonderful event”.
