GCSE pupils across Essex are receiving their GCSE results today, following two years of disruption to exams due to the pandemic.

Results from schools will be updated as they come in.

Forest Hall School

Year 11s at Forest Hall School in Stansted collected their results today, with their proud headteacher paying tribute to their hard work.

The cohort of pupils have endured lockdowns and school closures during the years preparing for their GCSEs.

Headteacher Matt Carter said: “These excellent results represent many years of learning and hard work from our young people and the staff at Forest Hall School.

"Their achievements are richly deserved and we are extremely proud of all of our young people.

“Forest Hall students have shown great commitment, drive and resilience throughout their courses, especially given the significant challenges they have encountered over the last two years.

"These personal qualities will stand them in good stead as they move onto their next stage of learning.

“I am now tremendously excited about the range of exciting destinations to which our students will now progress to, and we will ensure they receive the support needed to find their path.

“We look forward to seeing and hearing about their future successes.”

The school is celebrating 62 per cent of students attaining a grade 4 in both English and maths, with 43 per cent achieving the strong grade 5 pass.

In engineering, 100 per cent of students passed with a grade 4 or above; in photography, 97 per cent achieved grade 4 or above; and in art, 90 per cent achieved grade 4 and higher.

Students have also achieved “significant improvements” in subjects such as geography, combined science and separate science.

Among the Year 11s celebrating success today are Kei Allen, Moses Brett, Grace Cooper, Aimee Dulieu, Emelia Linwood, James Ship and Chloe Slocombe.

Students who did exceptionally well are Jack Tilstone, who missed almost two years of schooling due to suffering from a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Jack, who is now in remission, achieved a grade 9 in photography and grade 8 in geography early, as well as today picking up two grade 9s, one grade 8, two grade 7s, three grade 6s and one grade 5.

He will now go on to Saffron Walden County High to study further maths, maths, economics and politics.

Oscar Perry has a communication disorder and was expelled from a primary school for his angry outbursts, but has now gone on to thrive thanks to support from his teachers.

He has now received one grade 8, two grade 7s, two grade 6s, four grade 5s, a Merit and a Distinction.

Oscar will go on to study maths, further maths and physics at Sir Frederick Gibberd College in Harlow.

Assistant headteacher Kayleigh Trainor said: “I couldn’t be prouder of all of the students at Forest Hall School as they collect their results.

“They have shown that they are resilient and can overcome challenges to ensure they achieve their potential - even when times have been tough.

“They are an exceptional year group and have utilised the support of their teachers and additional sessions over the exam period.

“Every student collecting their results should be very proud of what they have achieved; I know I certainly am.”

Helena Romanes School

Staff and pupils at Helena Romanes School in Great Dunmow are celebrating a "fantastically strong" set of GCSE results.

The highest performing students were Benedict Beaton, with 10 grade 9s and one grade 7, Catherine Barber, with six grade 9s and four grade 8s, Millie Lewin, with six grade 9s and two grade 8s, Georgia Arnell, with four grade 9s and five grade 8s, and Milosz Kwapisz, with seven grade 9s and one grade 8.

Students who made significant progress beyond expectations include Alyce May, Poppy Perry, Vanessa Gradzinska-Alves, Josh Page and Jake Seymour.

Deputy headteacher Neal Foster said, “We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved.

Linton Village College

Students at Linton Village College are celebrating an excellent set of results.

Principal Mrs Marsh said: "Our students have demonstrated great resilience and hard work, in spite of significant turbulence to their education in recent years."

Particular success stories include Rose Wallace, who achieved grade 9s across all 10 of her subjects, making her the highest performing student this summer.

Other high performers include Kristen Barry (who secured nine grade 9s and two grade 8s), Evan Partridge (who achieved eight grade 9s, two grade 8s and a grade 7) and Aisha Jawaid (who obtained seven grade 9s, two grade 8s, two grade 6s and an A grade in the Level 3 Free Standing Maths Qualification).

Twins Ben and Alex Clarke were also high achievers. Ben averaged a Grade 9 across all of his subjects and Alex averaged a Grade 8.

Miku Archer not only achieved a string of top GCSE grades (six grade 9s, two grade 8s and two grade 7s) but also won a silver medal for Great Britain for Under 17s teams fencing at the recent Commonwealth Games.


Joyce Frankland Academy

Students at Joyce Frankland Academy in Newport are celebrating "superb" results following two years of disruption to their education.

Among the many students who have excelled are Hamish Weir, who achieved nine Grade 9s and one grade 8, Amelie Du Plessis who achieved nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8 and Halle Diggins who achieved seven Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and one Grade 7. Also celebrating their successes are Reggie Hammick, Oli Matthews, Grace Kinsey and Ana Pierre.

Principal, Duncan Roberts, said: “We are incredibly proud of the class of 2022 and the excellent outcomes they have achieved.

"Their results compare favourably with the year groups that have recently proceeded them which, when considering the exceptional challenges they have faced, is a true testament to their dedication, diligence and hard work.

"I would also like to thank our driven and passionate staff who have supported these students along their journey. The results demonstrate what a successful, progressive and ambitious institution Joyce Frankland Academy continues to be.

Saffron Walden County High School

Year 11s at Saffron Walden County High Schools are celebrating following an exceptional set of GCSE results.

Headteachers Caroline Derbyshire and Polly Lankester commented: "We want to congratulate all of our Year 11 students.

"These excellent results reflect the hard work and determination of our students in the face of significant challenges, the dedication of their teachers, and the support provided by the whole team at County High.

"We wish all of our students well with their next steps and we are looking forward to seeing so many of our Year 11 back in our Sixth Form in September."

Particularly high achievers were Nathan Wilkins, Abigail Weersing, Emma Hopkins, Charlotte Burke, Daisy Burgess and Daniel Legg, who all achieved 11 grade 9s each.

Year 11 achievement coordinator Sasha Gilbert said: “I am extremely proud of Year 11, they have been a fantastic year group to work with and I wish them all well with their plans for next year."


The Stephen Perse Foundation

Students at the Stephen Perse Foundation have once again achieved highly impressive results in this year's GCSEs.

Thirty-six per cent of GCSEs were graded the top score of 9, with 79 per cent of grades either 7, 8 or 9.

Stephen Ward, head for age 11-18, said: “These superb results are testament to the hard work, dedication and perseverance shown by our students.

"They have overcome the many challenges of the past couple of years in style and been rewarded with outcomes that stand them in fine stead for their Sixth Form studies next year. We are very proud of them and extend our sincere congratulations for all they have achieved.”

Principal Richard Girvan said: “Stephen Perse students can be confident that the excellent results they have been awarded are a true and fair reflection of all of their hard work, learning and attainment over two years, the first of which was affected by periods of national lockdown.

"We are therefore immensely proud of our students for coming through their courses with such superb outcomes and we are excited to welcome them back to school in September to commence their A-level studies.”


Felsted School

Felsted School pupils are celebrating impressive results in their GCSEs.

Sixty per cent of pupils achieved grades 9-7, 77 per cent grades 9-6 and 98 per cent grades 9-4.

Headteacher Chris Townshend said: "There are some exceptional results this year, with as many as a dozen pupils achieving better than six GCSEs at grade 9. There are also many others whose achievements reflect the brilliant progress that has been made.

“Achieving these results after a difficult few years is credit to the effort of all the teaching staff, pastoral support, parental commitment, and, most important of all, the hard work and determination of all the students.”

Among Felsted’s top GCSE performers were: Poppy H, Isabel W, Niamh W and Guy M-J. Poppy, Isabel and Niamh all achieved a full set of grade 9s plus two As and a B in additional maths respectively .

Poppy, who joined Felsted in Year 7 from Hong Kong, is an Academic and Art Scholar and also plays hockey and tennis. She will be staying at Felsted Sixth Form to study for the International Baccalaureate Laureate Diploma in history, chemistry, maths, biology, English and French.

Sports Scholar Isabel was part of Felsted’s winning U16 hockey team at the National Championships at Lee Valley Olympic Park, and she also plays 1st team netball and enjoys cricket. Izzy is staying at Felsted Sixth Form to study A Levels in history, maths and politics.

Niamh is staying at Felsted to study A Levels in biology, maths and psychology. An All Round Academic and Sports Scholar, Niamh plays 1st team netball and hockey and was also a key member of the national winning U16 team. She also plays for the Netball Superleague London Pulse U16 team.

Niamh said: “I am delighted with my results. Moving to Felsted two years ago was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Felsted’s top performing boy is all-round Academic and Sport Scholar Guy M-J. A skilled hockey player, Guy was part of the National Age Group (NAG) England Hockey programme in 2021, and recently won the Performance Centre Challenge Cup with his regional team.

Guy is staying at Felsted Sixth Form to study A Levels in geography, maths and psychology, and will continue to play 1st team cricket and hockey.

Other top achievers include; Danielle F, Michaela H, Ellie D, Jemima L, Ambrose L, Toby S, Deborah A, Josh T and Shesh A-J.

Drama Scholar Ellie D performed in Felsted’s production of My Fair Lady and Treasure Island, as well as being co-editor of ‘Source’, Felsted’s student magazine. Also a keen dancer and county swimmer, Ellie recently achieved her lifeguard qualification.

She will be staying at Felsted to study A-levels in biology, English literature and psychology where she hopes to apply to Oxford to study English.

Ellie comments; “I would like to thank my teachers and everyone at Felsted who has been so supportive to me, especially over the past year. I am so happy with my results and look forward to continuing my studies at Felsted.”

All-Round Scholar Toby is a keen musician, playing the xaxophone in the Felsted Jazz Band. He also enjoys hockey, playing for the 2nd team. Toby is continuing at Felsted next year, taking A-levels in biology, classics and geography.
