One family in Saffron Walden High Street seemed to have invented a whole percussion band to celebrate the NHS staff and keyworkers on Thursday night.
They were enjoying making lots of noise outside their home at the end of the High Street.
Other people stood on doorsteps and leaned out of windows.
The Thursday Night Thank You at 8pm has gained pace around the nation since it was launched as Clap for Carers four weeks ago.
The event, with people coming out of their homes to bang saucepans and clap, celebrates doctors, nurses, healthcare worker, the emergency services, armed services, delivery drivers, porters, shopworkers, teachers, waste collectors, manufacturers, postal workers, cleaners, vets, and engineers and people supplying fuel, heat, light and water among other people without whom civilisation would stop. For some neighbours it may be the only time they see each other.
There are now Clap for Our Carers T-shirts on sale on line with profits going to NHS charities.
