A family who had a bottle thrown at their car windscreen as they were leaving a concert in Saffron Walden on Saturday night have asked anyone with information to come forward.

Faye Newman and her husband, from Wickford, had been at the Jess Glynne concert at Audley End House with their two young daughters, aged five and eight.

When they were leaving, a bottle was thrown at their car on the B1383, London Road, in Saffron Walden.

Faye said: “It was definitely a bottle or a can as liquid was across the screen too when it happened.

“We were left to wait two hours for recovery, which wasn’t covered by our usual cover as it was classed as vandalism, so we were left out of pocket too. No local hotels had availability, trains had stopped.

“It was the girls’ first ever concert too, which was amazing - but ended terribly.

“We took the children to a Heritage gig thinking it would be safe for them as their first experience and this happens.

“HeritageLive have kindly offered for us to return as their guests next year, so that the girls can have a better experience of a concert, despite them not being at fault at all - a really kind gesture after something very traumatising.”

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We received reports at around 11pm on Saturday, July 14, of criminal damage in Audley End Road, Saffron Walden.

“We received a call after suspects threw a bottle at a car windscreen, causing a crack, before leaving the scene.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police quoting crime reference 42/100411/18 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
