Soldiers from Carver Barracks marked Armed Forces Day last month by bag packing at Waitrose in Saffron Walden.
The group raised £638 for the charity SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families).
Captain Waj Khan said: “When I opened the buckets I was stunned! There are some very generous patrons at Waitrose.
“The guys and girls felt it was a positive experience and it was clearly worthwhile.”
