Firefighters have extinguished a blaze at a redundant wood chip silo in Saffron Walden.
Two fire crews from Saffron Walden, one from Newport and another from Harlow, were called to the fire on the Shire Hill Industrial Estate at about 2.50pm.
The incident commander reported that the silo, which contained several tonnes of woodchip, was “completely alight”.
According to the fire service, the silo is at the Healys Woodyard derelict wood working industrial unit, which is slated for demolition.
Firefighters used two hose reel jets to tackle the blaze and had put it out by 4.20pm. Crews stayed at the scene for another 30 minutes to make sure no hot spots remained.
