SAFFRON Walden Building Society held a fun day in the town on Tuesday to celebrate its 160th birthday - and raised 200 for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Over the course of the day, the building society welcomed over 400 people to its branch for refreshments and cake and donated 25p for every person wearing a '160' birthday badge.

Face-painting in the branch and roaming stilt walker entertained the party-goers, and over 400 helpings of candy floss were given out from the Society's Mobile Communications Vehicle on the Market Square.

Part of the 200 total was made up by the contributions of party visitors and the rest was donated by the Society itself.

Sales and marketing director John Eastgate said: "Throwing the party was our way of thanking our customers and local people, whilst raising money for a good cause. We feel we have a lot to celebrate, and it was fantastic that so many people came in to celebrate with us."
