Plans are underway for Christmas celebrations in the Saffron Walden, with the town council scheduling festive events throughout November.

The annual light switch-on and lantern parade takes place on Friday, November 18. 

Two free lantern-making workshops will be held on Saturday, November 5 and Saturday, November 12 from 10am to 3pm in the Garden Room at Jubilee Gardens. No booking is required and people are welcome to just pop in.

Lanterns will be collected at St Mary's Church on November 18 at 5.30pm. The parade will take place at 5.45pm to meet in the market square for the light switch-on at 6pm.

There will be entertainment in the market square from 2.30pm into the evening, with a Christmas disco until 8pm.

Families can enjoy a free grotto in the Town Hall from 3.30pm to 6.30pm on Friday, November 18 and from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, November 20. The grotto can be accessed via the back door.

Finally, on Sunday, November 20 the Fayre in the Square will take place with a range of market stalls for Christmas shopping.

Uttlesford District Council has agreed free parking in Saffron Walden from midday on Friday, November 18, at all car parks except Fairycroft Road.
