The 10th annual Saffron Walden Music Festival attracted over 200 young people from around the area.

The event, which was held at Saffron Hall and sponsored by Rotary in Saffron Walden, gave the participants an opportunity to showcase their abilities.

Young people took part at all levels from beginners to high skill levels in disciplines ranging from percussion, piano, brass, woodwind, guitar, string and vocal, plus a newly-added jazz section.

Hilary Curtis, one of the organisers, said: "It was a delight to see so many young people of all ages and stages enjoying their opportunity to perform in this magnificent venue."

The judges, who were all leading professionals in their individual disciplines, said they were "really impressed" with the talent on display.

The festival concluded with winners of each section performing a finale concert, from which an overall winner was decided - violinist Sakura Fish from the Perse School in Cambridge.

Rotarian Tim Boyden said: "Sakura will now go forward to the regional final of Rotary’s National Young Musician Competition; it’s a pleasure for Saffron Walden Rotarians to sponsor this event as developing the skills and confidence of young people is one of our key objectives."
