Ex-professional footballer Luke Chadwick cut the ribbon at the grand opening of Newport's new community sports centre.

The centre is part of secondary school Joyce Frankland Academy, and was officially opened on Saturday, April 22 after a successful six-month trial run.

As part of the opening, members of the community got to try free activities including tennis, cricket, football, futsal and netball, as well as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and yoga.

Michelle Wilson, Anglian Leisure general manager, said: "We hope our new facility in Newport, will become a place for the community to enjoy the wellbeing and mental health benefits physical activity has to offer and look forward to seeing the community become fitter, healthier and happier as a result."
