Saffron Walden Children's Orchestra, which is now in its 11th year of running holiday courses, has announced its summer 2023 course.

The courses are open to children over the age of seven living in and around Uttlesford, who play an orchestral instrument of a standard between grades 1 and 5.

This summer's course takes place from 9.30am to 3.30pm from July 25 to 28, at Saffron Walden County High School.

The course will include four whole days of orchestral playing, with additional workshops in singing and drumming, as well as a supervised lunch and playtime.

Attendance costs £130 per child, with a second sibling discount of 50 per cent and financial assistance available to those eligible for free school meals.

The children's orchestra is sponsored by Saffron Walden Symphony Orchestra, and the aim is to provide a space where children from a variety of schools can play a range of music - from Pirates of the Caribbean to Beethoven's 5th - meet new friends and have fun.

Richard Hull conducts the orchestra, while visiting tutors give advice and support, and there will be a final concert in Saffron Hall at the end of the course.
