Saffron Walden's 'Summer Bandstand' season began on Saturday, with more performances set for later this week.

The season, which is organised by Saffron Walden Town Council and features a programme of brass band classics and popular music, opened with a performance from Hadstock Silver Band.

Di Pannell, the band's musical director, said: "We were delighted to be the first band for the season and already look forward to next years’ season.

"If any brass players/percussion would like to come along to a rehearsal or you are interested in booking the band for an event please email hadstocksilverband@gmail.com."

Mayor Cllr Heather Asker was joined by sponsors Tom Arkwright and Kerry Hill from Arkwright and Co Estate Agents to mark the occasion.

The Bandstand Season will run weekly on Saturdays between noon and 2pm from the bandstand in Jubilee Garden.

Performances are free, with attendees welcome to bring their own chairs and blankets to relax and enjoy the music.

A town council spokesperson said: "This week, Saturday, June 17, sees the bandstand shared; from 12 noon to 12.45pm music from Fairycroft House, and from 1.15pm – 2pm, local contemporary choir 'Somewhere2Sing'.
