Free events and activities have been taking place in Saffron Walden each Friday for families to enjoy.

On Friday, August 4 the National Youth Orchestra put on an interactive performance in Market Square, followed by a creative workshop.

A town council spokesperson said: "We were delighted that NYO took time out of their busy rehearsing schedule during their Saffron Hall concerts, to showcase the amazing work they do."

This Friday (August 11), musician and songwriter Ben Smith will perform from midday to 2pm.

Face-painter Rainbow Robin will also be in situ from 10.30am to 2.30pm, while La Boite will provide refreshments.

From 10.30am to 2.30pm Kidz Active will be providing sports sessions on The Common. No booking is required, and attendees can enjoy sports including archery, football, dodgeball and tennis.

After attending last Friday, Essex Fire Safety officers and Uttlesford District Council will visit the Beach on The Common to talk to families about the dangers of playing near water, along with advice on 'how to float'.

Saffron Walden Cricket Club will return to The Common on Friday, August 25 for school holiday activities, with no booking required.

Sessions are 10am to 10.40am for Year 1, 10.45am to 11.25am for Year 2, 11.30am - 12.10pm for Year 3, 12.15pm - 12.55pm for Year 4 and between 1pm and 6pm a selection of mixed games.
