Saffron Walden welcomed a delegation from their twin town of Bad Wildungen in Germany.

The visitors were welcomed with a civic reception at the council chamber on Friday, August 11.

Mayor of Saffron Walden Cllr Heather Asker said: "After a long period of enforced absence due to covid, it was a huge pleasure to welcome our counterparts from our twin town of Bad Wildungen.

"We had much to discuss and collectively have agreed to ensure that we involve more groups from both towns to ensure the future development of our relationship.

"This will include some of our young musicians who our guests met and were entertained by at Fairycroft House."

Saffron Walden Rotary Club, Barry Tyler's Jazz Band, Saffron Walden Golf Club and Saffron Walden Community Choir all expressed an interest in joining up with their Bad Wildungen counterparts.

Mayor of Bad Wildungen Ralf Gutheil and his fellow councillors went on a food tour of the town and visited Saffron Grange vineyard.

They also visited Saffron Walden Museum and St Mary's Church, and were entertained by The Walden Buskers at The Railway Arms.

Cllr Asker said: "This has proved to be a wonderfully successful visit and we look forward to meeting our friends from Bad Wildungen again soon."
