A host of free activities and events have been taking place on Fridays in Saffron Walden this month.

Last Friday (August 18), Saffron Walden Town Council was joined on the Common by Uttlesford District Council's climate action team, promoting the use of bikes with support from KidzActive.

Around 30 children attended 'balance bike' and 'learn to ride' sessions.

A climate change team spokesperson said: "We are delighted to work with the town council on these free activities.

"Cycling skills for children are essential for building confidence to ride safely and have fun wherever you cycle.

"It is also a step in the right direction for cycling to be accepted as a viable form of regular transport reducing the reliance on the car."

'That Other Band' also performed in Market Square on the day, with music by Bill Withers, Dusty Springfield and Van Morrison plus jazz and Latin standards from the Great American Songbook.

Saffron Walden Cricket Club is providing activities on the Common this Friday, August 25.

They will be running fun cricket sessions for budding young cricketers as part of the Beach on the Common and sporting activities programme.

Sessions will take place from 10am to 10.40am for Year 1s, 10.45am to 11.25am for Year 2s, 11.30am to 12.10pm for Year 3s, 12.15pm to 12.55pm for Year 4s and a selection of mixed games from 1pm to 4pm.
