Burglars broke into a bank in Saffron Walden, and police are appealing for information and witnesses.

Police were called just after 1.30am today (Wednesday, March 6) to reports of two men inside the Santander in King Street, and a third man standing outside.

All three were dressed in dark clothing and wore balaclavas.

The burglars did not gain access to the safe, but two bank machines inside the bank and a door were damaged.

After the alarm was activated, the men left in a black car towards the M11.

Detective Inspector Andy Drake, who is leading the investigation, said: "I’d ask residents who live nearby to review their doorbell footage and see if they have captured anything that could help our investigation.

"I’d also like to ask anyone who was driving in the area around this time, to check their dash cam footage to see if they have captured someone or a car acting suspiciously.
