A Loughton man has appeared in court accused of burgling a Saffron Walden jewellery store on Thursday, March 7.

James Happer, 51, did not enter a plea to the charge when he was brought before Chelmsford magistrates.

He was remanded in custody until he next appears in court on Monday, April 8.

Happer, of Longcroft Rise, was also charged with - and pleaded not guilty to - possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious substance and assault of a police officer by beating.

He did, however, admit possession of cannabis.

Happer was also charged with obstructing a police officer in the execution of their duty, but has not entered a plea to that charge.
