Saffron Walden Rotary Club has announced the winners of its latest competition for young photographers.

This year's competition was on the theme of 'rebuilding', with entries open to pupils from schools and colleges, young people who are home-educated and any youth community organisation.

The winners were announced in a presentation evening held at Saffron Walden Golf Club.

Joseph Waters from Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport was named the winner in the intermediate group for ages 11 to 13 - which he also won last year.

The runner-up in the intermediate category was Liam Hall, also of Joyce Frankland Academy.

In the senior group, for ages 14 to 17, the winner was Libby Curtis from Saffron Walden County High School, while the runner-up was William Colebourne from Joyce Frankland Academy.

Both judges complimented the entrants on their choice of subject matter, and added that they were impressed by the structure of the photographs - with the key subject perfectly positioned - and praised Libby's use of black and white.

Rotarian Tony Robertson, project leader for the competition, said: "The competition is split into age bands to allow participants to compete against those of a similar age, and aims to give participants the chance to express themselves through photography in an imaginative way and experiment with digital and traditional methods."

All four young photographers received WH Smith gift vouchers and certificates, with the winners also receiving a half-day tuition from Celia Bartlett Photography at her studio.

The winners will now progress to the East Anglia district final, which will be held in April.
