But it is not just the onsite amenities that make Mill View the ultimate retirement destination. Every week, residents can enjoy access to a wide spectrum of different activities and outings – with everything from coffee mornings, social evenings and film nights to board games, exercise and excursions.

Kayleigh Ackford, independent living scheme manager, said: “Mill View offers a great opportunity to develop friendships and meaningful relationships. It alleviates loneliness and gives peace of mind knowing you live in a community that will help you should you need it.”

There is no requirement to commit to attend an activity every week – residents can remain flexible with their plans and consider whether or not they would like to join on a day-to-day basis.

“Having the choice to decide whether you want to take part day-to-day is comforting,” said Kayleigh. “It is also reassuring to know that there are people around you, even if you’re at home in your own flat.

“Mill View provides a great opportunity to socialise and be part of a friendly community within one building.”

Board games and cards games are firm favourites among residents.

“Scrabble and Bridge are great activities as they bring people together to have fun, break up the day and generate conversations, as well as helping everyone to stay active,” said Kayleigh.

“At the end of the day, it’s participation in fun activities that builds community.”

Sarah Jackson hosts an exercise class in the dining room every Thursday at just £5 per session, which will be sure to get your body moving. The fitness class is suited to all residents’ needs, strengths and capabilities.

Young students from a local pre-school also visit Mill View on a monthly basis, and residents can join in with drawing pictures, reading together and playing games.

“The children love coming to visit the residents,” said Kaleigh. “It’s lovely to see the residents interact with the children, almost like they were their grandparents.”

The Mobile Library visits on the first Thursday of each month from 3:25pm to 4:15pm, where you can find your next page-turner – and why not enjoy your new favourite bestseller in one of the communal lounges?

Excursions via Dial-a-Ride bus are also arranged regularly to shuttle residents to local amenities and attractions, such as visits to the garden centre and the gorgeous Cambridge University Botanic Garden.

“Mill View is a destination that gives reassurance that residents can be part of something established and thriving,” added Kayleigh.

Sales advisor for older persons shared ownership Janet Bennett said: “Mill View is a special place for people to spend the later years of their life, free from the stresses and strains of managing a large house and garden, giving them the freedom to enjoy life to the full and be amongst a community of like-minded people.”
