Saffron Walden Rotary raised more than £8,600 for those in need at their recent charity golf day.

The day saw 80 golfers, in teams of four, compete in a friendly competition at Saffron Walden Golf Club.

Participants were welcomed with bacon rolls upon arrival, enjoyed Pimm's and burgers at the halfway house and had dinner in the early evening.

The competition was won by the Adcock's team of Tony Martin, Philip Holmes, Stuart Manser and captain Nigel Claydon.

Cheffins estate agent was the principle sponsor for the day.

Regional director Bruce King said: "We were delighted to sponsor for this event again, especially as the proceeds will go to support worthy causes.

"Cheffins has a long history of supporting charities and the communities where we live and work."

Cheffins auctioneer Jerry Curzon also conducted an auction, which boosted the charity fund.

Local butcher Burtons and baker Boswells donated food for the halfway house, with other Saffron Walden businesses sponsoring holes, donating tombola prizes and auction lots and providing players with refreshments.

Rotary's Tim Boyden, who organised the event, said: "We are delighted to have received such support again from the teams entered, our major sponsor Cheffins and all the other sponsors and helpers as we will use the funds to back Rotary’s worthy causes as we did last year."

A businessperson who played added: "We get invited to many golf days and I have to say that the Rotary Golf Day has become one of our favourites as it is well organised and is held at the prestigious Saffron Walden course.
