One of The Garden Room’s most frequent visitors will be honoured with a memorial plaque thanks to a £500 donation.
Members of Saffron Walden Ladies Circle presented a cheque to the manager of the Jubilee Garden facility, Julia Pointer,
It will go towards creating a plaque to remember Jim Gale, who died last month at the age of 84.
Ladies Circle chair, Claire Jennings, said the money had been raised at a recent quiz, adding: “We wanted to donate the money to an organisation that is doing something festive for local people, so thought The Garden Room was a good choice. Jim was also close to the heart of one of our members so we wanted to help do something to remember him as well.”
Mrs Pointer said: “We’ve just received some money from Essex County Council [£5,561] to re-model the serving area and this will include a putting in a cake stand on which the plaque in memory of Jim will sit. He was a regular customer and very much missed by all of us here at The Garden Room.”
