Top A-level performers at Helena Romanes School (HRS) in Dunmow included a law whizz – while a 15-year-old AS-level student is on his way to becoming the next big thing in product design.
Alex Williams, from Shalford, scored an A grade at GCSE product design when he was in Year 9 and today picked up an A in the same subject at AS-level from his Year 10 studies.
Overall the A*-C pass rate at HRS was down slightly, from 70 per cent in 2013 to 67 per cent this year, while the A*-E pass rate was 99.4 per cent. Last year it was 99 per cent.
Other top students included Emma Hargrave, who got an A* in biology, an A in chemistry and a B in psychology, Ruby Featherstone, with an A* in law, A in business and a B in English literature, and Callum Dove with A grades in sociology and English literature and a B in history.
Callum, who is off to Exeter University to study history, said: “My time at HRS has been an enjoyable, exciting and educational experience. I am sad to be leaving and will miss many of the supportive staff, but I’m also excited to see what the future brings.”
Ruby, who will study international business at Loughborough University, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at sixth form and am looking forward to university.
“The balance between independent study and responsibility and academic support has enabled me to achieve skills for the future.”
