A-levels results: Joyce Frankland Academy

Students were pleased with their strong set of A and AS-level results at Joyce Frankland Academy today (August 18).
Year 13 pupils achieved a 98 per cent A*-E pass rate, enabling them to move forward onto universities or work placements around the country.
High achiever Katie Lay got an A and two Bs, which the school described as a “stand out performance”.
Deputy head boy Michael Wheelhouse has chosen an unusual route into work, a competitive three year scheme with Barclays.
During his time at the bank, employed and earning money, Michael will also be working towards getting a degree.
As an attractive prospect, 4000 people applied, but only a handful were successful.
He said: “I am utilising a different alternative to university and for me, it’s something that really interested me and a method into a career, without paying money and with three years worth of experience.
“Handling money has always been in my family as my parents have a business and I have always envisioned myself at the highest level of the corporate chain.”
He described revision as “stressful”, but “at the end of the day you have to get it done if you want to get where you want to get to, it’s your chance if you succeed or fail”.
Michael got Bs and Cs in business studies, economics and English language, more than enough to get onto the scheme.
Head boy Spencer Hill was also pleased with his results and will go to Nottingham Trent University to study coaching and sports science, after a gap year teaching at his school, Joyce Frankland.
There was some good natured banter between the two boys, with Michael describing Spencer as “annoyingly good at every sport”.
Principal Gordon Farquhar said: “Our inclusive Sixth Form has continued to deliver fantastic outcomes for our students with many making enormous progress over the course of the last two years.
“We are proud of our Year 13 students who leave us with the academic achievements, but also the character and attitude to learning, to continue to pursue their dreams in a wide variety of spheres in the future.
“We are also excited about the strong Year 12 results with the potential this brings to continue, and enhance, the departing students’ legacy further.”
