A magical day for Saffron Walden pupils as they celebrate Harry Potter anniversary

Students at Saffron Walden County High put their Harry Potter knowledge to the test last week, as the school celebrated the 20th anniversary of the best-selling books.

Adding a little magic to their day, pupils took part in a trivia quiz at the school’s Hartley Learning Centre on June 26, answering questions on everything Potter from nargles to Norwegian Ridgebacks.

Proving herself a fan, Amy Dunn took home an illustrated version of The Philosopher’s Stone, signed by artist Jim Kay.

Students also took part in a lunchtime potions class and tried their hand at making Ron’s love potion before a game of ‘pin the scar on Harry’ with Rafferty Ockwell-Smith taking first place.

Ashley Reid won a prize for his efforts in Potter bingo, and Ellie Wilson scooped first place for the Horcrux hunt.

Alex Smith, manager at the learning centre, said: “We had a magical time celebrating Harry Potter’s 20th anniversary. It is wonderful to see that the legacy continues to bring joy, wonder and a passion for books to all those who read it.”
