American Air Show at Duxford attracts thousands

To coincide with the refurbished American War Museum, an American Air Show showed the development of United States air power during the World Wars, the Cold War and into contemporary warfare.

Throughout the morning, visitors met living history groups representing the United States Air Force during the Second World War and the Vietnam era, chatting to living history interpreters and exploring their vehicles and equipment.

The Cambridge Lindyhoppers demonstrated 1940s dances as Miss Holliday Swing, The Bluebird Belles and Pete Wayre performed nostalgic 1940s and 1950s songs on the hangar base.

The flying display began with the aerobatics of the Patrouille de France.

The Vietnam War show include a plane which took to the skies to the sound of Jimi Hendrix and ended with helicopters accompanied by Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries.
