The illustrator of the Angelina Ballerina children’s books, Helen Craig, has returned to her true love of sculpture to produce a collection which is on show at The Saffron Walden Gallery until August 7.
Mrs Craig, 80, who grew up in Essex, said it took her six months to create the series of 11 bronze-finished pieces.
She said: “I’ve always been the creative type and did some sculpture in the early part of my career, but it’s very difficult to earn a living from of course. I’m now able to return to it and have loved working on the collection.”
Mrs Craig first started illustrating children’s books in 1969 and has since completed over 60 titles, including 16 Angelina Ballerina books, and she recently donated her entire archive to Seven Stories, the national centre for children’s books.
