SUSPICIOUS callers to a Whittlesford house may have been distraction burglars, police have warned.

At about 4pm last Thursday, an elderly man living in Royston Road had a visit from a man claiming to be from the water board.

The caller asked the homeowner, who is in his 90s, if he could check his taps, and went to the kitchen and bathroom. Another two men stood with the resident in the kitchen while the first caller was in the bathroom.

All three men left together and it is not believed that anything was stolen.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: "We would like to hear from anyone who has any information relating to this incident.

"Distraction burglars will often visit the area they intend to target in the days before a burglary.

"Have you seen anyone hanging around acting suspiciously?"

The first man was described as being white, about 20, 5ft 6in tall and wearing a blue jacket.

The second was also white, the same age, 5ft 8in and wore red gloves, while the third man was white and 5ft 6in.

Anyone with any information should contact Cambridgeshire Police on 08454 564564 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
