The Bishop of Lahore attended a church service and reception in Saffron Walden at the weekend in a return visit following town mayor Sarfraz Anjum’s trip to Pakistan last month.

The Right Reverend Irfan Jamil, a senior member of the Church of England overseas, spoke at St Mary’s Church on Sunday, October 16, before enjoying a reception in the council chamber at the town hall.

The church service was delivered by St Mary’s Reverend Canon David Tomlinson, who was also joined by the Reverend Mark Poulson, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s senior envoy.

Mayor Sarfraz Anjum said: “It was a very good service and I want to give my thanks to David Tomlinson, who really looked after everyone.

“The Bishop spoke of the importance of the Christian faith in Pakistan and the close relations that exist between Pakistan and the UK.”
