A box of 11 abandoned ducklings have awaited staff as they arrived at Mountfitchet Castle, in Stansted, on Monday morning (April 13).
A spokesman for the castle said: “Residents know that the castle will always take in animals in need so they must have been left by some caring people knowing they would be given the necessary care before being integrated in with the many other rescued animals that roam freely within the castle grounds.
“They were obviously either orphaned or the mother had simply abandoned them. Ducks are notoriously bad parents to their babies but luckily these little fellows, which are Indian Runner ducklings, will now live out the rest of their lives in the safety of the Norman Village hidden behind the palisade walls.”
