Police are investigating a spate of attempted burglaries that took place in just two streets in Wimbish this month.

In total, nine houses were hit as bungling burglars tried to gain entry to properties in the Essex village, with eight of the attempted break-ins happening in Rowney Avenue.

A house in Pinkney Close - which is an adjoining street - was also targeted, and the majority of the incidents took place between April 16 and April 18.

No entry was gained in any of the incidents but some damage was caused to door frames in the attempts.

The failed thieves used the same method to try to get into the houses, by using implements to force the front or back doors open.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Police are looking into whether these crimes are linked and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.”
