TWO people have been arrested and three charged in connection with a burglary in Saffron Walden High Street.

The incident took place on Monday at 12.30am. A man in his 50's suffered injuries in the scuffle while trying to protect his property.

He sustained a head wound that required three stitches and an injury to his ear required paramedic attention.

Another occupant, a woman in her 20's was not injured during the raid. Items stolen included an air rifle, a knife, a hammer and a crutch.

Matthew Cannon, 18, of Walden Road, Hadstock, was charged with aggravated burglary along with a 17-year-old from Saffron Walden and a 16-year-old from Wimbish.

A 17-year-old woman was released on bail on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

A further 22-year-old man was questioned but he was later released.
