POLICE are appealing for information after a break-in at an animal shelter.

Burglars stole several hundred pounds of cash and caused damage totalling hundreds of pounds at Wood Green Animal Shelter in Chishill Road, Heydon, on Tuesday night (March 27).

Offenders broke into the site at about 9.30pm.

A safe and till stolen from the site were recovered the following morning in Fowlmere.

A police spokesman said: “To target a charity is a particularly low act and I would urge anyone with any information to call police.

Wood Green chief executive, Dennis Baker said: “We are all devastated by this thoughtless act, especially as the money taken was meant for the cats, rabbits and guinea pigs in our care.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
